INUMI was founded in 1996 by the Dr. Carmen Mazza y Luisa Bay, both disciples of Dr. Carlos Giannatonio. Female doctors of Ricardo Gutierrez Children's Hospital and exceptional clinical pediatricians. They were pioneers in the interest of nutrition when the specialty did not yet exist. 

They continued in their footsteps in the Güemes Sanatorium and in the Italian Hospital From Buenos Aires respectively, unraveling the mysteries of metabolic pathways, the impact of nutrition on children's health, and paving the way for those of us who continued their legacy. They were the first Argentine nutritionists -without having yet created the specialty and without yet knowing the complexity of the knowledge yet to be discovered.

They demonstrated, with a broad vision of nutrition and a passion for science, that study is the foundation of personal growth. Both embraced the complex knowledge of metabolic pathways and nutrition with different yet complementary approaches:  Dr. Mazza illuminated the first steps in the Type 1 diabetes and the childhood obesity, while Dr. Bay was a pioneer in the congenital errors of metabolism and he focused on the complexity of the malnutrition in eating disorders.  

The foundation of Nutrition Service of the JP Garrahan National Pediatric Hospital They reunited in 1987 where they both worked, as staff doctors and then heads of service. Both worked diligently in their clinical practice, were academics and mentors to several generations of pediatricians and clinical nutritionists, and also became  big questions about nutrition, which motivated them to investigate and contribute to knowledge with their scientific work and productions. 

INUMI It was the creation and the dream of these two great teachers, with unparalleled clinical acuity, from whom I had the luxury and privilege of learning.

INUMI It was conceived as a center of excellence in child and adolescent nutrition to conduct clinical, academic and research work in 1996. 

INUMI It is being relaunched today, in 2026, with the same spirit, the same passion, and the academic excellence that characterizes it.
